This fine little example of Thai architecture was almost directly across the street from our hotel. Officially known as Wat Phra Chetuphon and founded in the 17th century, (before the founding of Bangkok itself), Wat Pho is the oldest temple in the city. Construction of the current complex began in 1788 on the site of the earlier temple. Though it is famous for the reclining Buddha, the rest of the complex is actually far more interesting. As we were walking to our hotel at 3:00 on our arrival we could see the rooftops sparkling even in the dead of night.

I always find construction projects in foreign lands interesting. Part of my construction upbringing I guess.
