Suvarnabhumi Airport is Bangkok's international airport. Opened in late 2006, it is a modern efficient facility with some pretty cool architecture. On November 25th, 2008, literally three weeks to the day after this photo was taken, protesters from the People's Alliance for Democracy seized the airport, stranding over 250,000 foreigners. Thailand has a history of nonviolent coups and recently experienced such. I had been checking the state department and embassy websites daily before we left for fear that something like that would happen to us. Missed it by three weeks.
