Construction of Wat Prahsingh began in 1337. It was constructed by King Pha Yu in to house the bones of his father. The wat is one of the original temples in Chiang Mai and one of the largest temple sites. Located in the historic center of town, it is considered one of the most important wats in the city and was very active, with many people praying in the main hall. Restoration work that began in 2005 was recently completed.

We met a young Thai lady here who - upon hearing that we were American - started gushing about Obama's win over McCain the previous day. She had been voicing her delight for awhile before thinking to ask who we supported. She was quite relieved to find that we shared her opinion.

Above are views of the main Prayer Hall. To the left and below are images of one of the chapels. Below left are details of a small waiting area in front of the Prayer Hall. At the bottom of the page are images of some of the chedi on the temple grounds. The large white chedi contains the ashes of King Kam Fu, the builder's father.
