Designed by A. P. Bryullov and built in 1833, St Peter's Lutheran Church suffered the same fate as many, if not all, of the cities churches. Used for 30 plus years to store vegetables, this handsome little church was turned into-of all things-a swimming pool in the 50's. The high dive was in the cupola. The Soviets were nothing, if not pragmatic. It was returned to the Lutheran community in 1993 and re-concecrated in 1997.
