The Stratford Hotel and constructed in 1912 and designed by Bernard O. Mecklenberg, who also helped design the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Many similar hotels became low income residence in recent years. After a fire displace the residence of the Stratford, it was assumed that demolition was eminent. La Porte Group, a property management firm that specializes in distressed historic properties, had other plans. The building has been beautifully restored and turned into 44 affordable - for rent - studio apartments. It now uses solar energy to reduce energy consumption.
