The Shubrick Apartment Hotel, built in 1912 was considered the most modern apartment in Salt Lake with electric lights, a rooftop garden and basement social hall. Now days it houses Port O Call, one of the most popular bars in the city. The rooftop garden is still very much in use. Unfortunately, this fine example of period architecture is almost certain to fall to the wrecking ball. The laws of eminent domain have come to bear on it and it is to be condemned to build...a parking lot. Yes, to hell with preservation, we need a new parking lot for the federal courthouse.

(Note: Sadly, the building was demolished in 2008 to make way for a parking garge...Progress)?
