The
90K (90 meter) Ski Jump
was the first event I attended. I believe this one was held
on the second day. It was in Park City, which is about 30 minutes
from SLC without traffic. Of course it took much longer during
the Olympics. We had to be there by about 6:00, well before
dark and the temperature was well below zero, (not below freezing
- below zero). Sitting in those aluminum stands was like sitting
on freezer racks. It was worth it though. The favorite (who
ended up winning the bronze) was Polish and the former president
of Poland Lech Walesa actually spoke briefly. Those old enough
to know about Lech Walesa may understand why that man is one
of my heroes.
Unfortunately,
our seats weren't quite good enough to get good "in-flight"
images. If you enlarge the next couple images and look closely, you
will be able to see the jumpers in air.
