For two weeks in January of 2002, Salt Lake City was essentially the center of the universe. The city was awash in things to do. Budweiser set up "Bud World" which was surprisingly entertaining. The Ice Village was a concert venue set up in a derelict building on the west side. There was the medals plaza which hosted concerts every night after the medals ceremonies. Art exhibits, concerts, performers and some really good people watching (i met folks from the Ukraine, Sweden, etc., etc.) were all available on any given night.

Downtown. Just a nice image. The teepee-like information kiosks and Olympic banners added Some color.
The City-County Building was all lit up for the event. They had exhibits AND you could get small little samplers of (GASP) alcolhol. Now that's something you don't usually see in SLC.
The Spot light marks the location of Bud World. They actually had a small riot when they ran out of beer the last night of the Olympics. They even pulled a couple parking meters out of the ground
A very lit-up SLC skyline
The Gateway Center, a downtown mall, was decked out as well. They had a small plaza with Olympic doner bricks and a lively interactive fountain. People were running through the fountain even in the sub zero weather.
A view towards the city from Abravanel Hall, home of the Utah Symphony. They had exhibits here.
The fireworks for the closing cermonies were amazing. Several displays went off at the same time from all parts of town.
