A couple hours south of Salt Lake is the little town of Mayfield where my dad was born. The town of Mayfield itself, (population 424 as of the last census) is not of particular interest, but the mountains to the east of town are the southern end of the Wasatch range and differ from the mountains outside of Salt Lake in one major aspect. There is very little development up these canyons. Dirt roads, small reservoirs and a few isolated cabins are the limits of human impact in this area.
