The Karrick Block is notable because it is the oldest surviving work from one of Salt Lake's most prominent turn of the century architects, Richard Kletting. Kletting designed the Utah State Capitol. This structure was built in 1887 and is one of Kletting's first commercial structures. It housed a drug store until 1905 and apartments for 8 prostitutes. Yes, even SLC had a red light district.
