American Stores Tower. Built in 1998, it was the corporate headquarters of American Stores, the parent company of Lucky Stores, Osco Drug, Sav-On Drugs and Skaggs. When Albertsons aquired American Stores in 1999, they had no need of a corporate headquarters in SLC. The building was sold and has since become the Wells Fargo Center.

The tower was designed by the Dallas firm of HKS Architects, (they still maintain a Salt Lake City office). At 422 ft tall and complete with a helicopter landing pad, it is currently the tallest building in Utah even though the Church Office Building has more stories. I understand that is soon to change with some new development under construction right accross the street. It was designed with a triangular floorplan which takes advantage of the mountain views to the east. One of its more interesting features is the bridge that connects the main building with the parking garage.
