Ueno is a district within Tokyo's Taito Ward. The district is centered around Ueno Park. This park located on Ueno Hill, marks the last stand of the Tokugawa Shogunate. It is here that roughly 2,000 Tokugawa soldiers met their demise at the hands of the Imperial Army in 1868. After this final defeat of the Shogunate, the new Imperial government decreed that Ueno Hill would become Tokyo's fist park.

Attached to the park is Ueno Station. Many of Tokyo's cultural attractions are located in and around the park, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art and Tokyo National Museum. Benten-Do temple, Gojo Jinja shrine and Ueno zoo are also within the park's boundaries. Parts of the neighborhood are a bit run down and Ueno park is definitely a little rough around the edges but that just sort of adds to the charm.

Ueno Station is where the train from Narita Airport dropped us off. For those that are a bit homesick, there is a Hard Rock and a Starbucks in the station.
