It may not be the densest, or busiest district in Tokyo, but Shibuya sure looks the part. Shibuya is one of Tokyo's 23 special wards, meaning it is a self governing city within the Tokyo Metropolis. Its railway station is one of the busiest in Japan and Shibuya Crossing, (the intersection in front of the station), is famous for it's scramble. Similar to the Barnes Walk in Denver - the signals stop traffic in all directions to allow pedestrian traffic to cross. The sheer crush of humanity makes quite an impressive sight.

It is one of the places in Tokyo that reminds you of just how vast and crowded the city can be. The Shibuya Ward is also home to the Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi National Gymnasium. The high end shopping district of Harajuku is also located here. We spent a wonderful afternoon in the area.
