Nakamise Dori is a pedestrian shopping arcade running from the outer gate of Asakusa Temple to the inner gate. It is one of the oldest shopping centers in Japan, getting it's start in the 17th century when smaller temples associated with Asakusa were permitted to set up souvenir stands along the walkway in exchange for keeping the area clean.

You can get nearly anything that smacks remotely Japanese here. Everything from souvenir refrigerator magnets to genuine Edo period crafts. Lots of interesting food as well. An excellent place for people watching and souvenir hunting.
