Technically, the town
of Tammisaari (Ekenäs in
Swedish) no longer exists, having been combined with other towns in 2009
to form the municipality of Raseborg.
A pleasant and inviting city, it is located on an archipelago and has
a beautiful harbor. The original town was founded in 1546 and to this
day is one of the most well preserved of Finland's old wooden towns (they
tended to burn down often). Old Tammisaari still has many buildings dating
back to the 18th century and makes for a great stroll.
