The Central Railway Station (Helsingin rautatieasema) is one of the landmark buildings in Helsinki, as well as one of the most important. It is a transportation hub serving all metro commuter trains and some long distance routes as well (It was here that we departed for St. Petersburg). Part of a larger plaza, there was always activity in this part of town.

The station was designed by Eliel Saarinen (father of Eero Saarinen, a famous American architect) and is considered one of his most important works.
