Sometimes referred to as the city of schools, Jyväskylä - pronounced Yew-Ves-Kew-La (if I recall correctly) - is known primarily as Alvar Aalto's hometown and there are a number of buildings of his design within its boundaries. Quite a scenic area with a population of a bit over 125,000. It was a must stop on our road trip because of the "Aalto" factor.

Love the European cars. The ones on the left are Russian made Ladas, basically an oversized go-cart.

The Alvar Aalto Museum below. The museum is housed in a building of his design.

The Socialist Workers' Club, designed by Aalto in 1924. An early work. Neoclassical in nature but well known among architects as Aalto was just beginning to explore modernism.
