Hietaranta Beach and Inlet located near the hotel. Adjacent to the beach are Three cemeteries. This is where I would run every morning (at about 5:30 since I couldn't sleep once the sun came up).

Above and Right: Orthodox Cemetery

While the population of Helsinki is largely Protestant, there is a large Orthodox population due to the Russian influence in the area. The Orthodox Cemetery is part of the complex of cemeteries that includes the Hietaniemi Cemetery and Finnish Guard Cemetery. There is a noticeable difference in styles between Orthodox and Protestant grave sites.

Above, Left and Below: Hietaniemi Cemetery is the Lutheran part of the city's main cemetery and is where most state funerals are held. Many a famous Finn is buried here including Finnish presidents and architects Alvar Aalto & Carl Ludvig Engel. There is a large military section for soldiers killed in Finland's many recent wars.

It was about 11:00 at night when this was taken. The northern sun was pretty nice.
