The Argos & Stockmann buildings make up the Stockmann Department Store, the largest department store in the Nordic states in terms of square footage and sales. Built in 1930, it is somewhat of a cultural icon in Helsinki. I think all of us had to purchase something here at some point on the trip. The white building in the foreground is the Swedish Theater, the oldest national theater in Finland.

The plaza in front of Stockmann contains the statue of the Three Blacksmiths by Felix Nylund. The statue was donated to the city in 1939 and was damaged in the continuation war of 1944. The damage is still visible today. Across the street from Stockman is the Forum shopping center. This is essentially the mall that Stockmann anchors.

I believe this was the first photo I took in Finland.
