These two rather lonely looking figures are The Collosi of Memnon. The giant sentinals are all the remain of the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III. Supposedly the largest temple ever built in Egypt, it is said to have covered an area even larger than Karnak. It was however, built out of mud brick and located in the flood plain of the Nile. The yearly floods resulted in damage that required constant maintenance. The entire temple simply disolved after it had been abandoned. Even the solid stone Colossi have seen better days.

Can you tell that it was 106 degrees?
