The First Unitarian Church is another historic building in my neighborhood. Built in 1892, it was gutted by fire in 1985. The exterior stone masonry survived the fire in tact and the church appears much as it did when it was originally built. The entry stairs were added during the reconstruction and required the reopening of a long closed quarry to match the original facade. While the massive stonework makes it resembles a fort to some degree, it is still an elegant turn of the century building and quite unusual for the region.
