feijoada is tha national dish of Brazil. It is basically a meat and bean stew, served as part of a large multi-course meal and traditionally only served on Fridays. We had to try it. It was difficult as the menu was in Portuguese. Our server suggested I get at least four meats. He must have thought I was much larger than I actually am since I couldn't begin to actually eat all the food they put on my plate. It was an experience though. There are tricks to eating it , (how to apply the suaces and spices for example). Dining at a place where you can watch and learn from the locals is always helpful. The funky bong looking
thing is actually a type of coffee brewer called a globinho. I have never
had more consistantly good coffee than the days we spent here. You couldn't
find a bad cup of coffee. They tried to sell the globinho to me. I wish
I had bought it since the one website I found that sold it seems to be
MIA...damn |
